The islands have a rich history of pirate folklore including sunken ships laden with gold and buried treasure.  The waters surrounding the Tortugas are some of the best in the world for snorkeling and exploring coral formations and reefs. The main island is the location of historic Fort Jefferson which comprises the Dry Tortugas National Park.  There are a variety of activities to be found at the Tortugas and numerous charter companies that make daily trips to the islands.  The Sunny Days catamaran and Yankee Freedom catamaran are the two most popular high speed boats that make daily trips to the remote islands.

Key West and the Florida Key's are the home to the worlds third largest collection of coral formations encompassing a series of over six thousand formations.  It features many shallow water coral colonies that comprise some of the best snorkeling and diving opportunities to be found anywhere.

The surrounding Key West area is home to many remote pristine beaches and lush tropical exotic islands.  Fortunately there are a large number of companies that specialize in accessing and exploring these beautiful remote areas.  One of the best ways to experience firsthand these islands is by kayak.  Many of the charter companies will have this as one of your options.  Kayaks are able to maneuver the many shallow estuaries that you will encounter will touring these remote areas.

Bars / Nightlife
Key West is famous for it's unique atmosphere when it comes to it's bars and night life scene.  Key West is rich in history and many of the area bars date back to when the Key's was not a world famous tourist destination.  

One of the bars that is a must see is Sloppy Joe's.  Sloppy Joe's just oozes history and days long gone by.  It was the favorite hangout for the famous writer, Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway was a best friend of Sloppy Joe's founder,  Joe Russell, a legendary rum runner and charter boat captain.  It
was Hemingway himself that convinced Joe to name his bar Sloppy Joe's. 

Make sure you also check out the Green Parrot, Hoggs Breath Saloon and Captain Tony's. You will want to check out any of the female impersonators Key West is famous for.  Most of them are fantastic entertainers.
Fishing Charters
Key West, Florida is known for having some of the best fishing in the entire world.  The warm waters of the gulf combine with the rich Atlantic waters to form one of the most ideal locations for an amazing diversity of fishing opportunities.  It doesn't matter if you're a fishing expert or novice, Key West has something to offer for everyone. 

The Key's have long been known for it's shallow water flats fishing where many of the fish are spotted by sight and then stalked.  Anyone series about flyfishing has almost certainly spent some time in the Key's chasing the elusive bone fish.  On the Atlantic side of the island there is world class deep water offshore fishing that's just a short boat ride away. 

You can't throw a rock in Key West without hitting a charter boat captain, so you will have hundreds of options to choose from when deciding on a charter boat company.  Prices and fishing options can vary quite a bit so make sure you do your homework before heading to Key West.
Mallory Square
Mallory square is at the epicenter of Key Wests historic water front.  Mallory Square is famous for it's nightly sunset festival.  Thousands of people flock to the Square to watch the beautiful sunset and take part in the many attractions that this location has to offer.  The Mallory is legendary for it's many street performers and psychics who perform on a nightly basis.  Most of the performers are just incredible. 

The Square also features many arts and crafts (shopaholics you have been warned!) vendors along with numerous food and beverage vendors.   The Mallory Square sunset celebration is the circus and county fair all wrapped up into one package.  It's definitely a must see!

There are numerous rental companies that offer rentals for  jetskiing, sailboating, windsurfing, snorkeling, parasailing, and kayaking.  They also have private charters, sunset cruises and boat rentals available.  There are many huts that offer food and berverages and beach umbrellas and beach chairs.  One thing is for sure, you will never get bored at Smathers Beach.
Dolphin Encounters / Echo Tours
In the last few years Echo Tours and Dolphin Encounter Tours have become increasingly popular in Key West.  There are many Key West charters that specialize in taking you out on the ocean to view dolphins and marine creatures in the natural evironment.  Many of them will let you snorkel the reef as part of your marine experience. 

Some outfitters have glass bottom boats that can really enhance your adventure.  Prices will vary quite a bit based on your preferences and amenities you choose.
Conch Train Tours
